Freshman 15 - September 29th, 2009

I personally never gained the Freshman 15. I stayed at my same weight, because in truth, while I partied a lot, I was also at work a lot. I was always eating at work, which in my particular restaurant meant a lot of healthy and frankly vegetarian meals. I was always running around from table to table, because they liked to keep us as short staffed or rather as few servers on hand as possible. Even though they were only paying us $2 an hour, they liked to save money, and we liked having greater tip flow.

So in essence, in college, I made great money. But at the same time, I never worked a desk job, and I was always on the go. I went out with my friends every night and ate junk. But I was running it off basically speaking, and I played sports. This lifestyle is not for everybody for obvious reasons. I wouldn’t personally recommend it to everyone. But it kept me fighting the freshman 15.

Now the best way to fight the freshman 15 is not to be that active. It requires exercise yes, so if you join a club sport or something, it definitely helps. If you get a gym pass, it definitely helps. But one of the big things is that you need to control your diet. Don’t drink every night or every weekend. If you are going to go out to random meals with your friends at midnight, try every once in a while not actually ordering a meal. Instead, socialize with your friends, don’t stay in by any means, that’s part of college. But order a water instead or even something like a tea or lemonade. And during the day, make sure you are eating more fruits and vegetables. All of these things will help you in fighting the freshman 15.
